Benedict

Whether it’s 9am or 9pm, it’s always Guten Morgen at this 24 hour all-day breakfast restaurant, located in the West Berlin area of Uhlandstraβe. Inspired by the creation of eggs Benedict and the love of good breakfast, this place defies the ‘breakfast lunch and dinner’ approach to food and instead takes the ‘breakfast breakfast breakfast’ approach.

The menu is an egg-lover’s paradise but vegan dishes are also on offer, such as ‘vegan breakfast’ and pancakes. From sweet French toast with blueberry jam to the classic savoury eggs Benedict, the range of flavours caters to every taste bud. The food-lover’s treats do not end here, with the restaurant taking a ‘bread and breakfast’ approach (providing a bottomless basket of bread). Word of warning: don’t make the error of eating too much bread before the meal, as you’ll run the risk of leaving little room for the large portion sizes.

Having been inspired by the Mad Hatter’s tea party in Alice and Wonderland, the décor is quirky yet withholds a classy, American diner vibe. Given that the food and atmosphere are very popular, the queue can be long and you should expect a 90 minute to 2-hour wait if you arrive around 12 noon. It might be preferable to go in the late afternoon or early morning to avoid wasting your day queuing. Google ‘Benedict Berlin’ to see a fairly accurate day-to-day account of Benedict’s busiest times to find out when’s best to avoid.
